How Habitat Works

Heading: How Habitat Works

DESIGN NOTE: Visual graphic — adapt the existing "How Habitat Works"
infographic for web. Could be an illustrated timeline, icon steps, or
an interactive version of the 5-step model. See brand standards doc
page 3 for the existing graphic.

1. Raise Money — Through donations and ReStore sales, we raise the necessary funds to purchase land and build a new house.

2. Build a New House — With the support of volunteers, skilled trades, and donors, we build a brand new home.

3. Sell the House — Sold to a local partner family. No down payment, 0% interest, payments set at 30% of household income.

4. Plan for the Next Build — As the family pays their mortgage, that money goes into the Build Fund to support future builds.

Our History

Heading: Our Story

WAITING ON ROB: ~150 words rewriting their history. Placeholder below
based on what we know:

In 2003, a small group of people from the Hensall United Church established

a seed committee to determine whether a county-wide approach would be the

best way to embark on the Habitat journey. Similar ideas had been expressed

in the north end of the county, including Wingham. From those humble

beginnings, Habitat for Humanity Huron County began to take shape.

Since our inception, we have built, on average, a home a year. Three

ReStores were opened, and the revenue they generate helps cover

administrative costs and supports our construction projects.

WAITING ON ROB: Does he want to expand/rewrite this? The existing
copy is a good start but could use more detail on recent milestones
and impact numbers. ~150 words target.

The Impact on Our Community

Heading: Our Impact

WAITING ON ROB: Video embed. Placeholder section for a community
impact video.

Affordable homeownership changes everything. When a family has a stable

home, children do better in school, health improves, and the whole

community benefits. That's the multiplier effect of what we do.
